Meseraull Takes 8th Jack Hewitt Classic
August 6, 2016

WAYNESFIELD, OH (8/6/16) – Now retired, Jack Hewitt chooses to spend his days watching the next generation of drivers make their mark on the sport of dirt track racing.  The hall of famer who clocked in more than 260 victories in his career was honored for his hard work and dedication to the sport Saturday night at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio.  The yearly flagship event brings together such of the best open wheel racecar drivers throughout the Midwest wanting to add their name to a win list under in Jack’s honor.

The Satellite Connections Non Wing Sprint Cars headlined the Jack Hewitt Classic racing for a $3000 payday.  The 30 lap A-main was led to green by the 9X of Thomas Meseraull and the 39 Matt Goodnight.  Meseraull took the lead into turn one and began to establish the lead in the opening laps.  By lap five, Meseraull had a three second lead over the field.  Dustin Stroup in the 1M made his way into second spot ready to make a run on Meseraull.  The distance between Meseraull and Stroup began to shrink as Meseraull got deep into lap traffic slowing his momentum.  As laps began to wind down, Meseraull found the cushion and managed to push through heavy lap traffic.  The push allowed Meseraull’s distance over Stroup to increase.  Leading every lap of the A-main, Meseraull took home the victory by 4.1 seconds over Stroup.  Kyle Simom came home third.  In victory lane, Meseraull spoke very highly of his car owner who gave him a chance.  “I used to suck but got better…this is awesome”, said Meseraull.  Todd Keen set the quick time during qualifying with a 12.101 second lap.  Kyle Simon, Thomas Meseraull, Scotty Weir, and Dustin Stroup took the heat race wins.  Thomas Meseraull took the dash win with Paul Dues taking the B-main victory.

The Quest Federal Credit Union UMP Modifieds took the track next for a $1000 payday.  Weasel Phlipot and Scottie Williams led the field of 20 to the opening green.  Phlipot and Williams went wheel-to-wheel down the back stretch before Williams could pull away and claim the opening lap.  Lima’s Jeff Koz shook up the field a bit as his 16 began to slow exiting turn four.  The car managed to limp back to the pit area and keep the A-main green.  Current point leader Josh Scott took over the runner-up spot.  With Williams as the target, Scott was ready to make a run for the lead.  The move was successful moving Scott to the lead with 7 laps in the books.  With Phlipot back to third, a three-way battle for the position developed.  Scott Gerdeman took the worse beating in the battle with Ryan Barr and Phlipot.  Despite the contact, Gerdeman took the spot and made a run for second.  The run for second was a success with just 7 laps to go.  Gerdeman could not track Scott down giving him his fourth Waynesfield win on the season.  Scott Gerdeman finished second with Weasel Phlipot finishing third.  Zach Schroeder set a new track record with a lap time of 13.787.  Three other drivers managed to squeeze under the former track record in addition to Schroeder.  Zach Schroeder, Josh Scott, Scottie Williams, and Scott Gerdeman took home the heat races. Weasel Phlipot took the dash victory with Casey Luedeke taking the B-main.

After two consecutive A-mains going wall-to-wall green, The Performance Powder Coating AMSA Mini Sprints and the USAC Midwest Thunder Midgets took the track for their 20 lap A-main.  Delphos, Ohio’s Gunnar Lucius and Piqua, Ohio’s Ryan Barr led the field to the opening green flag.  Barr took the lead and claimed the opening lap.  Lucius took the lead back and led the second lap of the A-main.  Lap three saw Barr, Lucius and Kobe Allison in a three-way battle for the lead.  Allison’s run for the lead ended when his car went around bringing out the caution.  On the restart, Brad Racer got a great start and nudged his way into the second spot.  A series of cautions followed as the track started to slicken up.  Lima’s Ty Tilton used a mid-race restart to move into the third spot.  With 13 laps remaining, Racer’s patience paid off allowing him to jump into the lead.  A late race tip over by Ron Kimmel set the field up for a shout out to the finish.  Tilton and Christopher Whipple made contact out of turn four with just two laps remaining battling for second.  Once the dust settled, Brad Racer took home the A-main win.  Christopher Whipple came home second.  Ty Tilton finished third.  Kobe Allison, Ty Tilton, Christopher Whipple, and Corey Bedwell took home the heat race wins.  Gage Etgen claimed the B-main win.

Waynesfield Raceway Park is back in action next Saturday night, August 13th.  The event will feature all five weekly classes as the point chase nears the end.  The Performance Powder Coating AMSA Mini Sprints will lineup the A-main utilizing a King of the Hill format.  Additionally, all Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club members will be admitted at a discounted rate.  Pit side gates open at 4PM; grandstands at 5PM.  Hot laps get underway at 6PM with racing following at 7PM.
