Waynesfield schedule set; All Star Sprint Speedweek, 2nd Annual Jack Hewitt Classic, Big Dawg 100 highlight 2010 campaign

by Gerry Keysor

Waynesfield OH

January 24, 2010

Waynesfield Raceway Park's 2010 schedule has been released and if you like variety, you'll love WRP in 2010. No less than 9 different classes will take to the 1/3 mile clay oval this year. Included are the Non Wing Sprints, UMP Late Models, All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Winged Sprints, 360 Sprints, UMP Modifieds, 1000cc Mini-Sprints, Compacts, 4 Cylinder Tuff Trucks, and for the first time ever, Mini Modifieds.

While some were getting antsy, wondering when WRP would get its schedule out, track promoter Dean Miracle had his reasons for waiting. “We wanted to wait until we had everything set in stone so we could assure our fans and race teams that there would be no changes later on, especially the teams who plan to try and qualify for one of the free chassis at the end of the season” said Miracle of the chassis giveaway for the teams in the Non-Wing Sprints, UMP Modifieds, and 4 Cylinder Tuff Trucks, which will see a new Maxim Chassis, Laser Chassis, and Intimidator built roll cage and hoops, awarded by random draw to one team in each of those classes who has perfect attendance at WRP in 2010.

Test and tune for all dirt cars will take place on Sunday April 4th and Sunday April 11th, allowing teams to shake down their rides before the Season Opening Shootout on Saturday April 17th with Non Wing Sprints, 1000cc Mini-Sprints, Compacts, and 4 Cylinder Tuff Trucks; and Sunday April 18th featuring UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, Compacts, and the Tuff Trucks.

The month of May sees the 360 Sprints hit WRP 3 times including May 1st, May 15th, and the return of the NRA 360 Sprint Invaders on Saturday May 29th. One on one, tug-of-war style truck pulls return to Waynesfield on Friday, May 14th, as the 4th Annual Tug of War Truck Pull takes place in the infield. Come watch some of the areas toughest trucks battle for supremacy, or sign up to see how your truck measures up.

The All Star Circuit of Champions will take to the high banks of Waynesfield on Wednesday June 23rd as part of the 28th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek. Stevie Smith conquered all during last year's Speedweek stop at WRP. Greg “Wildman” Wilson, “The Steel City Outlaw” Tim Shaffer, and all of the cars and stars of the All Stars will be at the top of their game as they look to dominate the Buckeye State in 2010.

July will see the Mini-Modifieds invade WRP for the first time ever in a 2 day show on Friday July 9th and Saturday July 10th. Both nights will see 5 classes of racing action as the MMSA Mini Sprints, 4 cylinder Tuff Trucks, and Compacts will compete both nights, with UMP Modifieds rounding out Friday night, and the Non Wing Sprints rounding out the racing action on Saturday.

August 7th will see the 2nd Annual Jack Hewitt Classic featuring the Non Wing Sprint Cars. This was one of the most exciting races in 2009 with Matt Westfall of Pleasant Hill, Ohio holding off a daring Jon Stanbrough slide job on the last lap to pick up the trophy for the race honoring Troy, Ohio racing legend Jack Hewitt.

UMP Modified teams and fans will want to be at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Friday September 17th and Saturday September 18th as track promoter Dean Miracle and race promoter Tom Wieck bring the 10th Annual Big Dawg 100 to WRP. Friday's show will feature the Bear Wieck Memorial for the UMP Modifieds while Saturday will see the UMP Mods battle it out in the Big Dawg 100, which has become one of the biggest UMP Modified shows in the country.

October offers a full month of Autumn racing action with the 360s, UMP Modifieds, Compacts and Tuff Trucks on Sunday October 3rd, and Non Wing Sprints, 1000cc Mini Sprints, Compacts, and Tuff Trucks on Sunday October 10th. The 2ndAnnual “Screaming in the Dirt” for go-karts takes place on both the 1/3 mile oval and 1/5 mile oval on Friday October 22 - Saturday October 23. Friday October 22nd will be open practice for this event for both tracks, and the rain date will be Sunday October 24th. Waynesfield Raceway Park will wind down the 2010 season the same way it opens, with a 2 day show. “Halloween Havoc” Will take place on Saturday October 30th featuring Non Wing Sprints, 1000cc Mini-Sprints, Compacts, and 4cyl Tuff Trucks; and Sunday October 31st featuring UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, Compacts and 4 Cylinder Tuff Trucks. Additional shows may be added in November, weather permitting.

In addition to the scheduled Test and Tune dates in April, Waynesfield Raceway Park plans to allow open practice for all dirt cars on Tuesdays throughout the 2010 season. Contact the track office at (419)425-3929, or (419)306-1499 for more details.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 3, 2009
Waynesfield, OH

Following a vote during the meeting with Mini-Sprint teams on November 1st, promoter Dean Miracle has announced that Mini-Sprints will return to Waynesfield Raceway Park in 2010, but with more power.
Starting in 2010, Mini-Sprints competing at Waynesfield Raceway Park will be permitted to run engines UP TO 1000cc.  Some adjustments to our rules will be made to allow the teams with 600cc engines to continue to compete.  Full rules and details will be released in the next 2-3 weeks.
By allowing the 1000cc cars, WRP opens the gates to many teams who are looking for another venue to race, while also not shutting the door on the 600cc teams.  The Mini-Sprints put on great shows all season long at the 1/3 mile clay oval, and this should enhance the already exciting competition.
