DARF Night Does Not Disappoint At WRP!

WAYNESFIELD, OH (6/30/2018) – With four classes on the card and a pit full of diverse race vehicles, Waynesfield Raceway Park saw some of the best racing on the season Saturday June 30th for the annual DARF Night. Devon Helmig, Matt Westfall, Jerry Bowesock, and Austin Scott were the lucky winners Saturday night, each winning their respected divisions. Those drivers weren’t alone though as each class saw racing up front going two, three, and sometimes four wide for the lead, creating some of the best racing ever seen around the 1/3rd mile. It was a points race for each of those four divisions, and following the nights mix of results there is sure to be a points battle brewing for the remaining ten events.

The Block Insurance Tough Trucks lead the feature events of the night, and being the first class on the track following some preliminary track prep, the race saw some of the most passing the Tough Trucks have ever had. 5th starting Devon Helmig found his way out front early in the race, and never looked back leading all 15 laps ahead of the 16 truck field. Helmig wasn’t alone though as he had the Hicks brother’s duo of Mike and Chris Hicks on his bumper, with Michael attempting to pass for the lead in the final five laps of the race. Helmig and Hicks raced side by side with just two laps to go, but the driver out of Lima, OH driving the 17D was able to find whatever grip he could on the racing surface, and pushed himself into victory lane for the first time this season. Helmig, who was out of breath in victory lane, was grateful for a good, clean racing with Mike Hicks, and thanks his entire crew and family for their work on his truck. The Tough Trucks return back to action in three weeks on July 21st for the Block Insurance Night.

The Quest Federal Credit Union Non Wing sprints saw a feature event that was worth the price of admission alone. It was slide job city out around the 1/3rd mile, as Matt Westfall, Drew Rader, and Dustin Ingle slid around each other back to back to back, each battling for the top position on the race track. 7th starting Westfall who was driving the Ray Marshall backed 33m, found his way into the runner up position with just ten laps to go. Following a mid-race caution, Westfall took full advantage and opened the door driving himself around Rader and 6th starting Ingle as the five laps to go signal came out. Those final five laps though did not disappoint, with Ingle and Rader both attempting to get around Westfall, each car running all parts of the race track, attempting to find whatever they could and make up ground on a fast Westfall. Their efforts would come up short though as Westfall was able to hold onto his lead, and drive his black and yellow number 33m back into victory lane. This race served as a tune up for the Dick Spencer Memorial next Saturday July 7th, featuring the BOSS Non Wing sprint cars, which is sure to be an action filled evening.

In a strong field of 33 cars, the Satellite Connections UMP Modifieds also saw a fantastic battle up front but this time it became a five car battle with any driver able to pick up the victory. Despite heavy hitters behind him like Zach Schroeder, Jeff Koz, Tony Anderson and Brent Hole, Wapakoneta, OH’s very own Jerry Bowersock was able to drive his 95J into victory lane. This victory was the second of the weekend for Bowersock, after he won Friday night at the Limaland Motorsports Park. Bowersock had his hands full throughout the entire 20 lap feature Saturday night, as Schroeder and Koz were racing nose to tail with Bowersock in the final few laps. Despite strong efforts from both of those drivers who were racing side by side up until the checkered flag, Bowersock was able to use whatever he could find of the racing surface to return himself back into victory lane. The UMP Modifieds have seen four different winners so far this season, shaping up their points battle to be one of the best in years. They return back to action also in three weeks, on Saturday July 21st for Block Insurance Night.

The final A-Main of the night featured all 17 of the Indian Lake Outfitters Compacts and this feature like the others did not disappoint. The “Racing Realtor” Austin Scott found himself starting on the pole of the feature event, and he would manage to lead all 15 laps of their feature event. But following suit of the features before them, Scott wasn’t alone up front as he fought off a hard charging Robbie Tuttle. Those two would race side by side for multiple laps, but following a plethora of cautions, Scott was able to maintain his lead and drive the XS back into victory lane for the third time this season. Scott, who was overjoyed in victory lane, thanked all fans for coming out on a sweltering day, and made sure to thank his entire crew, family, and each sponsor on his car. Scott picked up his first ever victory at the Waynesfield Raceway Park back in April, and has won all but one race on the season for the Indian Lake Outfitters Compacts.

Waynesfield Raceway Park returns back to action in just three days for the Sprint Summer Sizzler! This is one of the most anticipated events of the season, featuring the NRA Sprint Invaders, the FAST 410 Sprint Cars, FAST 305 Sprint Cars, and the Waynesfield Mini Sprints.
