Phlipot Dominates Modified Money Night
May 12, 2018

WAYNESFIELD, OH (5/12/2018) – After setting a new track record just one week prior, Weasel Phlipot dominated the Satellite Connections UMP Modified Money night breaking his own record yet again and taking home the $1500 feature win prize. With over 32 cars signed in to compete, the Modified’s battled all night two and three wide performing some of the best racing on the season. The Indian Lake Outfitters also returned back to action for their second night of the season, with an increased pay for their division, paying $300 to win, and $50 to start. Both classes had a strong support of competitors with nearly 20 battling in the Compact class, and young gun Austin Scott taking home the extra money yet again.

The Satellite Connections UMP Modified’s led the program with the increase purse throughout the field on Modified Money night. Weasel Phlipot had set a new track record the week prior with a time of 13.686 seconds only to top that this week and set quick time with a new record of 13.581. The Modified Money night brought drivers in from multiple states and one driver from Canada. With a class of 32 strong, the UMP Modified’s saw some of the best racing Waynesfield Raceway Park has ever seen around the 1/3 mile, battling two, three, and even four wide throughout the night. But it was Phlipot who had his car tuned perfectly, setting quick time, finishing second in his heat race, and after starting third in the feature event, he patiently waited to strike and found his way into the Tim Hogans Carpet & Flooring victory lane with under 10 laps to go. 9th starting Jerry Bowersock would find his way to finish second, third to last years track champion Jeff Koz, fourth to 8th starting Dylan Woodring, and Brandon Vaughn would round out the top five. The UMP Modified’s return back to WRP on Saturday June 2nd for the Blue Collar Showcase.

Following his first ever victory at Waynesfield Raceway Park just three weeks prior, Wapakoneta, OH’s Austin Scott found his way back into victory lane yet again for the Indian Lake Outfitters Compact division. After starting fourth in the 15 lap feature event, Scott patiently waited to make his move and take home the increased $300 check. After starting on the pole for this race, Brandon McDaries had mechanical trouble and would exit the race early on. This would leave for a great battle for the lead between Justin Durflinger and Robbie Tuttle, but it was the “Racing Realtor” who found the extra grip on the race track and was able to make his move with less than five laps to go and put himself back climbing the fence in victory lane once again. Austin Scott took home the victory with Durflinger, Tuttle, Rob Sharpe, and Matt McKinnon rounding out the top five. Scott overly emotional yet again in victory lane, jumped out of his car and climbed the fence in celebration in front of the cheering fans. He was overly thankful in ensuring all of his sponsors were mentioned, and dedicated his win to his mother, and all of the mothers out there for Mother’s Day. This was the first ever week for the Compact’s running with the scoring transponders and it was seen as a complete success. The Compact’s return back to action Next Saturday May 19th for the Weekend Warrior Showcase.

Also in action this week was the Vintage American Race Cars with drivers from all over the country showing off their restored vintage cars. The field included cars dating back to the 1920’s, and some of which were the track championship cars at tracks in the Midwest. You can find out more about these cars and their drivers as well as a complete schedule for them at www.vintageamericanracecars.com.
